Term paper: In consultation with me, each student will select an important topic, either on tropical ecology or tropical conservation, and will write a review on this topic after a thorough exploration of the literature. Your paper will be modeled after the Reviews type of article on Conservation Letters (author guidelines) or the Synthesis article type in Ecology Letters, albeit with fewer references than indicated in author guidelines (minimum of 15 references from the primary literature). For ideas for the paper please draw upon class discussions, student presentations, or debate topics. To make this manageable I would ask that papers be between 12-15 pages long with 2,5 cm margins, double-spaced with 12 point Times New Roman font. That will work out to about 3000 to 3750 words total. You should as is appropriate consider any figures or tables that might support your assertions or nicely summarize major points – always give attribution for images used. Worth 30% of your final grade.

Here is a recent example of a review type article in Conservation Letters: Chester et al. 2022. Using ecosystem services to identify inequitable outcomes in migratory species conservation. Conservation Letters 15(6). e12920.
